[MUSIC PLAYING] - When it comes to safety, Prius buyers don't have to compromise. It offers many of the same safety features found on other Toyota vehicles. The available vehicle stability-control system controls the engine output and brakes when the car is turning to help the driver maintain control. Anti-lock brakes, electronic brake-force distribution, and brake assist are all standard. Prius also comes standard with a direct tire-pressure monitor system. Sensors in each wheel transmit pressure information to a control unit inside the car. A warning light on the instrument panel illuminates if it detects a tire that is seriously underinflated. Dual front airbags activate in certain types of frontal collisions to help protect front-seat passengers. These advanced airbags feature dual-stage deployment and front-occupant classification system. They can deploy with lower pressure in less-severe collisions and higher pressure in more-severe collisions. The airbag-deployment level is also determined partly by whether the seat occupant is wearing a seat belt or not. A front-occupant classification system disables the passenger airbag when the right-front seat sensor detects a lower range of weight or no passenger at all. Standard front-seat side airbags and side-curtain airbags help offer protection in certain types of side impacts.
