Access 2016 – Field Order and Size – How to Move the Column and Rearrange Fields Name in MS Database - Hi and welcome, and thank you for joining. Today I'm going to show you how to use Access 2016, specifically how to change the order of the fields displayed on your table. I'm going to show you this in both the data sheet view and the design view. So let's go ahead and get started. So we have a table right here. What's on this table isn't really important, but I want to show you how to select your field names first and then also how to move them. OK? So we see here, we have our table. To select the field, sometimes what people do by mistake is they select a record and they try to move the record. But remember, if you click inside of a record, Access assumes that you're only going to be working with that record. To first select the field, you have to click on the actual field heading right up here. All right. So I just say, click on the name of the field where the text displays. All right. So that's how you select the field. All right. This is in the data sheet view. Now let's say I want to move this interest right here to the left of hire date, OK? Now, I put it in the wrong order. Let's say that's what happened and a lot of students they try to create that field over again and redo it. You don't need to do that. You just need to move it. So to move it, you're basically going to click on the text and you'll see it highlighted in the pink border. And then, if you click and drag, you can move it to wherever you want it to go and it will be displayed with a black vertical bar. All right. Now wherever that bar is being displayed will be when you release it, that's where the new field will be. So let's say I want to move it to the left of hire date. I just move it just that way, then released my mouse, and we now see interest is displayed to the left of hire date. All right. So that's how you do it in data sheet view. Now, let's say we're in design view, OK, down here in design view. It's going to be the same sort of concept. Now remember, you're not going to click inside the fields themselves. That won't help you out here because it'll assume you're changing the field name or data type. But rather you're going to click in the box to the left of all of the field names. As you click that box, as you could see on my screen, it highlights in the pink border that we saw on the previous screen and we can change the way these are displayed. Let's say I want interest to be displayed before hire date. I'm going to click and drag from interest up above hire date and now we see interest is now above hire date. I switch back to the data sheet view. Since I made design and layout changes it'll ask me to save the table. I can save the table and now we see interest is displayed to the left of hire date. All right. So that's how we go ahead and move our table field names around. And so if you like this video, please give it a thumbs up. I have a bunch of other videos on Access.
