Surface Level vs. Deep Level Diversity CREW MEMBER: One. -Hi, there. This week we're talking about diversity, and I thought, you know what, why explain it through PowerPoint when you can watch a video of me? When you look at me, what do you see in terms of diversity? I'm guessing you see a lot of different things. If you look at it I got a little bit of gray hair. I'm getting up there in age. I'm 37 years old, so there could be age issues. And if we see from the HR chapter, ages 40 and above are a protected class, so right now I'm not a protected class. You look at me, I'm a male. I mean, that's my gender. You look at me, and I don't seem to have disabilities. I can walk around. I can run. I can do physical things. You look at the color of my skin, I look Caucasian. I sound like I'm from the United States. I don't have an accent. These are all forms of surface level diversity. Those initial things people see when they look at me. For some other ones that really aren't from our book, you might look at my shirt and you see "Fear The Spear." You know what, this is from Florida State. They're the Seminoles. That's where I went to college. So people might say, oh, got a US education, went to college, and at that university in the southeast. That says a lot about surface level diversity. Then we've also got deeper level diversity. So in general, what's my mood? What's my disposition? I'd like to think I'm a pretty happy guy, and maybe my wife, my kids might say different. But I think in general, people are going to say, that's a happy guy. It's part of my disposition. You've also got my personality. Those big five personality traits. I've got some personality traits maybe that I'd say are better than others. You know, high on consciousness, and some of these other ones that maybe could be different. But in terms of a deeper level you've got things, like personality, disposition. So again, thinking about diversity, we think these initial things you see-- the surface level. I'm a male. I'm Caucasian. I don't have disabilities. This is my age. And then you've got deeper level stuff as we [INAUDIBLE]. Thanks.
