Student/Faculty Relationships at Dickinson College [MUSIC PLAYING] STUDENT: This place will change your life in the best way possible. It will open doors that you didn't even think were there. [MUSIC PLAYING] AMY WLODARSKI: Dickinson is a nurturing community that develops students into really critical thinkers. It creates a community of learners in which faculty and students collaborate together. [MUSIC PLAYING] ALEJANDRO HEREDIA: I think that's my favorite part of the things and experience. The fact that professors really know you. KIRSTEN GUSS: I think that it's great for the students to have the opportunity to interact with the faculty. But as a faculty member, I would say that that's my favorite part of my job is interacting with the students. CELESTE HIPPOLYTE: That relationship between faculty and student is very distinctive of Dickinson. I think it sets Dickinson apart. [MUSIC PLAYING] B. ASHTON NICHOLS: I have seminars that never get larger than 12 students. [MUSIC PLAYING] PROFESSOR: My biggest class this term is 13 students. K. WENDY MOFFAT: I have nine in my methods class I've never taught a class, in 30 years here, that had more than 35 people in it. STUDENT: It's not only the ratio, but it's the relationships. DOUGLAS EDLIN: My goal is to know the name of every one of the students in that class by the end of the first week of that class. B. ASHTON NICHOLS: Dickinson is a very welcoming, very challenging, intellectual community. ALEJANDRO HEREDIA: They [INAUDIBLE] challenge you. And I was like sure, yeah. I'm all for it. SCOTT BOBACK: The students get an opportunity to work side-by-side with us. Oftentimes, the students that engage in student faculty research with us end up going to regional or even national meetings and presenting their work among some of the tops in the field. Of course, it's important for us to be able to help them along the way, write letters of recommendation for them, and keep in touch with them, and find out how successful they are. STUDENT: They really take their time to get to know the student individually, so that they can properly find the best way to enhance your learning experience, because everybody's different.
